Welcome
to Labor and Employment Law Resource Page of DEC's Legal
Department.

This page will provide you with instructions on how to
use this resource, how to communicate with your counsel
in the Legal Department, and how to use the tools that
are published here to help you avoid legal problems
before they occur and to minimize the legal risk in
managing the human resources of your department. Although
the federal and state laws governing the employment
relationship are very complex, all individuals who have
management responsibilities for supervising other people
are required to have a basic understanding of these rules
and to be aware of their requirements in everyday
transactions with employees. Often employees will ask you
questions about the employent relationship and it is not
necessary that you have the tools to be able to respond
to employees quickly and accurately.
Our approach to providing legal services to you is
designed to enable you to comply with relevant federal
and state employment laws by providing you with legal
information at your "fingertips", diangostic
checklists and guides, and efficient communication
between your department and the Legal Department. Our
objective is to assist you in minimizing the legal risk
in management situations and enable you to function more
effectively.
I am the primary lawyer who is responsible for
providing service to your department. You can reach me by
email at: jsmith@dec.mail.net
, my voice phone is 504-233-1234 and my beeper number is:
23456. If it is an emergency you can reach me on my home
phone on weekends and evenings at 504-237-1234. The other
lawyers who work on labor law and employment matters in
the Legal Department are Jane Roberts,
Michael Winner, and Helen Harris
.
